The Daily Herald

 

The Daily Herald originated in 1898 as the Utah County Democrat, which became the Provo Herald in 1909. One 17 Apr 1922 the newspaper was first issued as The Daily Herald which continued for for three years at which time it was changed to The Evening Herald on March 15, 1925. The paper ran for 14 years with this title, reverting to the Daily Herald on May 22, 1939, which has continued to the present day. Another major point here is that the Daily Herald absorbed the Provo Post in the early months of 1922. This brought two newspapers operations together.

 

The newspaper has undergone changes in ownership many times over the years. When the Utah County Democrat began in 1898 there was no newspaper for the Democrats in Utah County (the Utonian had ceased publication in January of that year). The Utah County Democrat was started by Fred Nelson. By 1901 the newspaper was published by Wells R McBride and C W Barnes, adding R W Hooper by 1903. It appears that by 1903 Wells R McBride was the editor for the paper.
